200-Day Contract

Must have a valid SC License to practice Occupational Therapy

Reports to: Director of Special Services

Location: District

Position will be open until filled.

 

General Statement of Job:

The Occupational Therapist will evaluate students to determine their functional levels and identify special needs. The successful candidate will plan and implement therapeutic activities to assist special education students to benefit from their educational experiences.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning, managing, and implementing a program to meet the student’s IEP goals;
  • Providing training to the appropriate persons to carry over therapy goals in the school setting;
  • Maintaining and monitoring maintenance of equipment/room;
  • Implementing program services to include: self-help, functional mobility, environmental adaptations/adaptive equipment, positioning, motor functions, sensory processing, provocation/vocational skills;
  • Functioning as a liaison and maintaining contact with school, family, physicians and agencies;
  • Screening, evaluating, and reassessing students’ performance to develop IEP;
  • Formulating Occupational Therapy policies and procedures;
  • Scheduling students for evaluation and treatment;
  • Billing Medicaid according to district policy;
  • Performing other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services;

 

ESENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Reading, analyzing and interpreting professional journals, technical procedures and instructional manuals;
  • Applying knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs;
  • Designing and writing professional development plans, reports and data entry procedures;
  • Presenting professional development and training and responding to questions from faculty and staff;
  • Working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics in the display and interpretation of data and application of the above concepts to practical situations;
  • Interpreting and carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form;
  • Planning and implementing lessons based on school/district objectives and the needs and abilities of individual students;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community;
  • Clear and concise written and/or oral communication;
  • Developing a flexible work schedule to meet reporting deadlines;
  • Performing duties with a high level of detail and accuracy;
  • Self-monitoring and managing multiple tasks while working individually as well as in a group setting.
